India Coffee Culture Brewing as Tea Holds Ground

India is traditionally a tea-drinking country. But it is now acquiring a taste for coffee, prompting global coffeechains to eye the huge market.  And local entrepreneurs are also hoping to cash in on the country’s tea-drinking habits by opening new outlets to promote the beverage. It is just 10:30 in the morning, but two cafés located within meters of each other, opposite a college in New Delhi, are doing brisk business.  Their main customers - undergraduate students. In the past decade, India’s huge young population has quickly embraced a coffee culture as cafés become the hip and convenient place to spend time. The result - coffee chains have expanded fast and furiously, fanning out from big metros like New Delhi and Mumbai to small towns and highways. Coffee consumption has doubled in the last 10 years. Now a days there are multiple restaurantswhich are providing the cuisine like coffee snacks . Explore here such kind of Restaurants in Delhi . It is the promise of this market that is luring chains like American-based Starbucks to enter India. It will open its first outlets here, later this year. In addition to domestic chains, Lavazza and Costa Coffee are already present.  The head of India Coffee Trust, Anil Kumar Bhandari, says Starbucks will come to a country where cafés have become central to the lifestyle of young, middle-class Indians as incomes grow and global trends catch on. “They should have been here before..  Almost any café chain which has a reasonable quality with its service, ambiance and food, and coffee first, will succeed in this country.  Because look at the young population, [it] is growing and they are all taking to it like ducks to water,” Bhandari said.  But coffee’s growing popularity does not mean that tea, which Indians have consumed for more than 150 years, is moving over.
India is one of the world’s major tea-growing countries and a cup of “chai,” as it is known locally, is hugely popular. Indians consume eight times more tea than coffee. But outside homes and offices, it is mostly sold by street vendors. And that is what entrepreneurs like Amuleek Singh Bijral hope to change.  The 36-year-old Harvard graduate has opened a tea retail chain in the southern information technology hub, Bangalore, called Chai Point.  These are not upscale cafes, but offer customers more affordable tea in what Bijral calls a clean and hygienic environment. Explore here Restaurants in Bangalore . Instead of cappuccinos, lattés and espressos, they sell lemon tea, iced green tea or masala chai - tea cooked with spices.  It is often served in glasses instead of cups, the way many Indians have it at home.
In less than a year, 14 Chai Points have mushroomed in the city.  They are not competing for image with cafés because, as Bijral points out, “chai” is the common man’s beverage. “You can not [over] price it.  You can not give it an elitist twist.  We are very clearly not a high-street phenomenon.  We are not a mall phenomenon," Bijral noted. "We do not think that is the mass of India, so we very clearly have defined our sweet spot where we say we are going to target the working Indian and serve people who are in the habit of drinking 'chai' three to four times a day.”  Another entrepreneur has launched a similar tea venture in the northern city, Jaipur. Thirty-year-old Manasi Chadha in Bangalore welcomes these outlets. “Drinking tea is a kind of in-home kind of thing, out-of-home options like this are new.  Especially since coffee-drinking has boomed in the last couple of years," Chadha said. "This is a little different.”  And as health becomes high on the agenda of many consumers, the tea restaurants hope to quietly stress the advantage of a beverage that is low on caffeine and high on antioxidants. Business analysts say it is not a case of coffee or tea.  They say that in a country where half the billion-plus population is under 25, both cafés and tea points will find plenty of room to grow.

Fast food chain Just Falafel eyes bite of India UK market

Just Falafel, the UAE’s fast-food chain that grew from two stores to an agreed 73 in the past five years, plans to add outlets in India and the UK and may consider going public as soon as 2014. “We foresee exponential growth for Just Falafel in 2012 and 2013, and we aim to remain profitable so that we have the option to eventually go public,” chief executive officer Fadi Malas said in a telephone interview from London Jan 10.  “The conditions of the financial markets would have to be there and we would have the option to go public after at least three profitable years.”  Just Falafel, which has secured paid franchises in countries including Saudi Arabia and Lebanon, is seeking to boost the number of global stores to become the leading retailer of the Middle Eastern vegetarian food. The company, which may list its shares in the UAE, said Jan 8 full-year profit was AED7m ($1.9m). Explore Here Bangalore Restaurants .
The Bloomberg Quick Service Restaurant Index, made up of fast-food chains such as McDonald’s Corp, surged 16 percent in 2011. That compares with a 20 percent drop in the MSCI Emerging Markets Index and a 17 percent decline in Dubai’s benchmark stock index. Money raised from initial public offerings in the UAE fell to $243m in 2011 from $7.4bn in 2007 after Europe’s debt crisis hurt regional stocks.  “This trend of entrepreneurship is the consequence of a general downturn in the global financial sector,” said Mohammed Ali Yasin, chief investment officer at Capm Investment in Abu Dhabi. “Investors are looking into franchises or areas of the real economy that are cash-generating businesses; there’s a belief today that the food business produces revenue, and may have the potential to go public when market conditions improve.” “Just Falafel’s selling point across the Middle East is that we’re offering retail franchising, and historically in the region, there’s not much of that,” Malas said. Pepping up the pizza in Multiple cities in India

Bizarre it may sound, but a sev puri pizza is as Indian as it can get. There are fourteen other new Indian flavours (nimbu mirchi masala, chicken chaat, chettinadu paneer, chicken achaari, chatapata veg masala, to name a few) that Pizza Hut has launched, along with a new campaign, to celebrate its 15-year existence in this country. According to Sunay Bhasin, Marketing Head, Pizza Hut India, India is one of the fastest-growing branded restaurant markets in the world. The organised eating-out market is estimated at $2 billion and growing at a CAGR of 25 per cent, out of which Pizza Hut, he claims, is the largest affordable casual dining restaurant (ACDR). “As the economy gallops, consumers are continuously upgrading from street food and fast food and coming into the ACDR segment, making the segment grow at a fast pace. The way the eating out market is growing at an unprecedented rate, we believe there's immense potential in this segment for us to expand.”
For Pizza Hut, growth and expansion are not just reflected in the number of stores but in the new launches and innovations in the food it offers. The year 2011 saw the pizza chain take a “big leap”, adding pastas, shakes, mojitos, gelatos and cheesecake. Other quick-service restaurants and pizza chains have done the same, adding to both core and non-core products. Domino's, after introducing butterscotch mousse cake, Pizza Dips, Chicken Kickers and Pasta Italiano, recently launched a three-cheese pizza (so far largely available in Italian/speciality/fine-dining restaurants) which, it says, follows the tendency of Indians to eat richer and heavier food in the winters. Pizza Hut's campaign features young adults reliving their memories of visiting Pizza Hut as children and eating their first pizzas. Is this aimed at getting more adults into its restaurants? “No,” says Bhasin, “the brand doesn't focus on just kids or young adults. It cuts across a larger spectrum of individuals, which can be family, friends or even colleagues.” Explore Here  Restaurants in Gurgaon and Restaurants in Delhi
“The campaign highlights how since the first pizza, so many things have changed in our consumers' lives except the pizzas and dining experience that they enjoy at Pizza Hut.” Bhasin says that in the last 15 years, the Indian consumers have evolved to a level where they are well informed and have more options to choose from. To a question on consumer preferences, Bhasin says: “While our customers continue to love the classic pizzas which are famous internationally, our localised options are also very well appreciated.” The 15 new Indian flavours, all pan pizzas, will be available at the restaurants for three months. On future plans, Bhasin says: “As a brand which thrives on innovation, growth is not just limited to the number of stores we open every year. In terms of store count our aim is to operate 250 restaurants by 2015.” Currently, it has 131 stores across 34 cities. Innovating and introducing newer foods is the way ahead, he says.

6 Low-cal foods for your cravings

Choose foods that are heavy on the stomach but are low in fat. The ones that fall low on the glycemic index are said to stave off hunger for longer periods of time.
Explore BookMyRestaurant  Blog for Multiple  Recipes and another important Food Related Information . Know what these are and win over your urges.
Soup
A bowl or two of broth-based soup rather than higher-calorie cream soups works well. Add your favourite cut-up veggies, plus a proteinsuch as beans, chicken, or fish, so you have all the elements of an energy-dense, satisfying meal. Due to its thick consistency, soup takes longer to absorb keeping your tummy full for a longer time.
Smoothies and cottage cheese
If smoothies are made with low-fat yogurt and loads of fruit, you're getting protein, fibre, and calcium. A glass of apple or banana smoothie will surely gratify your hunger for a while. Low fat dairy products, like natural yoghurt, low-fat milk and cottage cheese supply rich amounts of protein and calcium. They have a mild impact on your blood sugar levels that helps delay hunger cues and enhances weight loss.
Popcorn and puffed rice
Popcorn has the volume effect. If you have a tub of air-popped popcorn and don't add fats (caramel or butter) to it, you can consume it without any guilt. Moreover, it gives you a lot of sensory satisfaction. You can also munch on baked or roasted snacks such as khakra (crisp roti) and kurmura (puffed rice) without worrying about adding additional calories.
Raw fruits and vegetables
Fruits and vegetables are lower in calories per gram compared to denser foods. To increase satiation, consume a cup of chopped water-rich fruits and vegetables, such as berries, citrus fruits, tomatoes, kiwi, celery, cucumbers, bell peppers, leafy greens and water chestnuts. If you don't like it plain, prepare a fruit or veggies salad by adding a few drops of vinegar and low-fat salad dressing to it. Also, whole wheat pasta with your favourite sauteed veggies provide higher satiety.
Whole grains
As whole grains contain all the nutritious part of the grain, they digest slower and more efficiently than refined grains, such as white flour. As fibre-rich, low-glycemic foods, whole grains also help manage hunger pangs. Go for fibre-rich whole grain foods like steel-cut oats, long-grain brown rice, pearled barley and whole wheat bread. When purchasing breads, cereals and pasta, check ingredients lists to ensure that whole grains are listed as main ingredients.
Legumes
Legumes, such as split peas, lentils and beans, contain a unique blend of protein and fibre. One cup serving of cooked split peas or lentils provides up to twice as much fibre as other fibre-rich foods, such as barley, whole wheat pasta, raspberries and pears. Naturally low-fat and cholesterol-free, legumes are heart-healthy. Nutritious legume-based dishes include lentil soup, split-pea soup, chilled bean salads and dals.
